Dorothy Stringer playgroup
A fun place to learn
We want Dorothy Stringer Pre-school Playgroup to be a place where children feel safe, happy and confident. A place where they’re ready and able to develop the skills and knowledge they need to take on to primary school.
But we also want you, their parents and guardians, to be happy. That’s why we work hard to develop positive relationships, by keeping you up to date with your child’s progress and encouraging feedback from home.
Most of the staff here are mums themselves, and we know how important it is to feel confident that your child’s care is in good hands.
The way we work
We’re great believers in the power of play, as it helps children develop life skills, gain confidence, and learn how to form relationships.
We shape our weekly activity plan around the seven key areas of learning and development set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage framework. We also build your child’s individual development needs into the plan, as well as the things each child loves to do.
Then there’s the spontaneous activities that are mainly led by the children; walks around the green Surrenden Campus on our doorstep; trips to feed the goats at Varndean College; regular visits from our fantastic singing and dance teachers; and educational visits from ZooLab, the fire service and others.
